HB, 2B, 4B and 6B graphite on Bristol Board
This drawing actually came about because of a challenge by one of my friend’s . The deal was if I did a good graphite sketch, he would listen to a Metallica song of my choice! I couldn’t hardly pass THAT up!!! But I have to say even if he never listens to the song…I’m so glad he convinced me, by whatever means, to pick up pencils again!!
I’m requesting a critique on this because I’d love to get better at it. But let me preface this by saying
1) I learned a lesson about CHEAP art supplies. I bought a drawing kit to see if I liked them still and yes, it was cheap. When I grabbed the kneaded gum eraser I noticed it had an oily residue on the outside, but since it’s been EONS since I sketched, I thought maybe I’d forgotten something and that was how they were. So, I kneaded the oil into the eraser…used it to pick eraser residue off the paper…and continued on.. Apparently it left oil on the paper. So if you see horrible black splotches, take a guess what it is and there are several of them on the page.
2) Keep in mind that it’s been 22 years since I’ve done this so I’m rediscovering all the things that I did in college but haven’t touched since…and even some NEW things I’m trying out my own blending tools (and found that cheap (here it does work:rofl) cosmetic pads work GREAT!!!), getting the feel again, trying different paper, and learning new techniques which leads me to number….
3) Don’t EVER try to use a new technique until you’ve practiced I wanted to try circulism and have found that in the middle of a drawing is not the best time to try something out. I’ll have to practice more with it as it seems like a great way to do skin
I saw this stock picture by and just fell in love with this beautiful little girl and plan to do some more digital paintings/drawings/possibly prismacolor pieces of her. Here’s a link to this beautiful little girl [link]
I just loved the expression on her face She looks like she wants to do something and has been told no…so that’s where the title came from
So…critique away because I want to get better (but take it a little easy on me…kay?)
